We have leveraged VivaCity’s existing sensor network, which uses AI on camera-based sensors, to gather data on flows of different classes of road user,including pedestrians, throughout the COVID-19 pendemic. These sensors are now installed in cities across the UK, providing a broad baseline for statistical analysis.
Our sensors already gather data on the paths that different road users take. We have used this path data to derive information on social distancing, analysing how many paths of pedestrians & cyclists come within 2m of each other. We can use this to assess how well people are obeying the social distancing directives when out-and-about in any region where VivaCity have sensors.
(Our sensors do not collect personal data, and none of our clients can use our technologies to gather any kind of personal data, ever).

Please find below a short summary on traffic analysis as of the 23rd April during the continuation of the national lock-down period. Please contact us if you would like to discuss these findings in more detail.
- Overall traffic is still low but showing some signs of increasing, with volumes at c.41%
- Increases are led by commercial traffic, up by c.10%, but cars also up by c.5%
- Shift in daily <2m interactions to a broad afternoon “hump” rather than a morning peak in most locations
- Cycling peaks on sunny weekend days continue to be observed
