This Smart Junctions project in collaboration with Immense Simulations and Transport for Greater Manchester, was created with the aim of revolutionising traffic signal control. Viva apply modern technology and artificial intelligence to better manage traffic networks.

We all understand how frustrating it can be to sit at a red traffic light when there is no other traffic on the road, or the damage to the environment of pollution from millions of idling cars.  Current traffic management solutions have always been aimed at the movement of cars through a city, with little thought for cyclists or pedestrians.

Viva sensors provide data on how roads are being used by ALL users, being able to detect more than 9 different vehicle modes. Over the last 2 years we have developed our technology further to move away from passive data monitoring, to active signal control. We now have a ground breaking system which uses both the data from our sensors and cutting edge machine learning to better manage our road networks and improve journeys for all.

Innovate UK funding for this 3 year project has allowed this vision to become a reality and our system is now live across 3 neighbouring junctions in Greater Manchester and we continue to scale this up into wider areas with greater numbers of pedestrians and cyclists.
